Former Miss Earth Malta, Alexia Fenech

Meet Alexia Fenech former Miss Earth Malta & Maltese aficionado. Malta is one of the smallest countries in Southern Europe, but what it lacks in size it definitely makes up in food & culture. I caught up with Alexia recently for a short interview to talk about why Malta should be on everyone's next intinerary..... Instagram "@alexiafenech_7"

1. What is the choice of food for people from Malta? What are the locals eating?

Alexia Fenech: We have a variety of traditional food here, from a homemade platter of stuffed olives, local cheese, homemade paste, maltese sausage and local bread. We have snails, fish soup and local rabbit stew. Also fish is a big thing here. You can find all sorts of restaurants here aswell from Italian to Indian, Chinese & Meditteranean.

2. Where in Malta can we find the best beaches?

Alexia Fenech: My favorite beach is Paradise bay and Riviera bay, also Comino's blue lagoon is a must and basically Malta is surrounded by the best cleanliest beaches.

3. How was the feeling of representing Malta as Miss Earth?

Alexia Fenech: It was the best beauty pageant experience as I spent 1 month in Austria with 90 other girls. I am forever grateful to have been Miss Earth 2015 and represented my beautiful island.

4. What languages are spoken in Malta?

Alexia Fenech: In Malta the main language is Maltese and English, people also speak fluent Italian, French and Spanish.

5. I hear Rabbit stew is a big thing there, is this true?

Alexia Fenech: For sure we have the best rabbit stew which you can eat at the best specialised restaurants found mainly in Mgarr and Bahrija.

6. When is the best time of the year to visit?

Alexia Fenech: Its beautiful all year round here, I would prefer April-June weather wise and of course Summer is the best time of year here but it tends to be very hot.

7. What City are you from?

Alexia Fenech: I am from Hamrun but living in the peaceful Balzan .

8. Malta is surrounded by Greece, Libya, Sicily & Tunisia. Is it safe to say you get a mixture of visitors from all over?

Alexia Fenech: Yes we have alot of foreigners and also students and foreign employees working here, with the betting industry going strong aswell. But on the whole its a very safe place to live in or relocate to.

9. Where do the locals go on the weekends?

Alexia Fenech: In Winter, partying is mainly in Paceville with lots of clubs and lounges there, in Summer there are plenty of more clubs like Cafe Del Mar, Gianpula and Numero Uno which are open air clubs with pools. Also loads of parties and foreign events are being held here like Lost and Found, Isle of MTV etc.
